alright kids, here's my first post! technically i haven't left yet but i wanted to get this blog up and running. so far packing has been a bit of an ordeal. more than i thought it would be, simply because i didn't think i had as much space as i do. so i want to stick with the smaller amount of space i had initially anticipated having, because, you know, why not make life more difficult? besides, i figure the more efficiently i pack, the less i have to lug around with me. And while i am sure i will almost immediately regret not having my 3 inch heeled boots or my knee length wool sweater, these are just sacrifices i've got to make. oh the burdens we bear.
in other news, i will be in the DR in less than 2 weeks! in fact i will be with my first host family in less than 2 weeks. it's surreal that this is all finally happening, but getting fired from work really seemed to put my future in perspective. Now when i say getting fired, i mean that i told my boss my last day would be the 13th. and he made my last day the 9th. if that's not getting fired, i don't know what is. needless to say, i'm bitter. now i have had too much time to pack and organize as my wreck of a room clearly demonstrates. but i'm rambling again. all sarcasm aside, i am very excited but also very nervous. i know it will all be great, and i am setting out on the adventure of a lifetime, but still this waiting period is making my imagination go nuts.
i'm really glad that i have been able to say goodbye to a lot of the people who are most important to me. i had my going away party far enough in advance for it to not be a sad affair, and i'm so glad because goodbyes suck. so it was fun and perfect! and last night i had my goodbye dinner with ashburn's family and my step-neice Parker is crawling now! so she was the entertainment of the night and she couldn't have risen to the occasion any better. she is trying to stand and it was almost too cute. she is an ambitious little baby!
my aunt gail is visiting now so we have been shopping for some last minute things, like my favorite spices and a nice pair of pants. she is an epic aunt, and so she is also gonna teach me the proper way to make beans when you have to soak them and everything. it sounds like a good way to prepare since mentally if i don't do anything i may go crazy.
alright. first blog post complete. sorry if this one is boring, but i'm sure the ones i post once i'm actually down there will be much more action packed. so action packed that i will immediately make you all so jealous you come visit me even earlier than planned. just saying.
